Evening at the beach

The weather the night before had been stormy and quite depressing, so I decided to take the family for a drive down to Port Stanley in my Wrangler. It ended up being a complete one-eighty with the suns rays and twenty-four degree temperature. An ideal evening to pull the camera equipment out from the back …

Cokin Grey Neutralizer

The following is a side by side comparison of two images both taken with a Tiffen Haze-1 filter, and one using a Cokin 154 Grey Neutralizer filter. Both photos were taken using an ISO/ASA setting of 500 with a Pentax K-x DSLR using a SMC Pentax-M 1:2 50mm lens @ F/2. This first image is …

Halloween Self portrait

A quick self-portrait for Halloween using the Pentax M 1:2 50mm lens on my camera. I did some post-processing using gimp to fix a small over exposure problem from the mirror I was shooting at. All-in-all, I am extremely pleased with the results of portrait. In case anyone is wondering what jacket I am wearing it is the Elegant …

Dr. Pepper, an iPhone 4, and Depth of Field

I spent part of the night, and a little of the morning, figuring out how to apply depth of field in practice. With a little Dr. Pepper in my system, some music on my iPhone 4, and a little bit of experimenting I came up with some quick ideas for testing out the depth of …

Night shots

Well taking a walk with the dog tonight I was able to get another set of pictures taken. These pictures had been taken near the parking garages at the local mall. Mall security hadn’t been to pleased to find me out there with a camera at 1am though. And quickly forced me onto public property before calling …

Lunch break snapshot

Took some time during my lunch break to snap this frame using the muted colour options. I particularly liked how the rays from the sun traced across the outer hallway floor leaving a soft specular blur along the wall side bench seats.

Shooting in the backyard

Took sometime during my day off from school and work today to experiment a bit more with the Pentax K-x. The picture above is from series of test pictures using the various apertures available with the 18-55mm kit lens. The aim had been to produce crisper pictures though the K-x seems to create soft images …
